Oil-industry gifts to Trump committees (2023-2025): what FEC filings show Case A search of Federal Election Commission records for named oil and gas donors found large gifts to the Make America Great Again Inc. super PAC and the Trump 47 joint fundraising committee in 2024, and to a committee named MAGA Inc. in 2025. Continental Resources gave $1 million 18 days after the April 11, 2024 Mar-a-Lago dinner, and Kelcy Warren gave $5 million that May. In 2025, Warren and Energy Transfer each gave $12.5 million. The search covered selected names and committees, so it is not a complete tally. The April 11, 2024 dinner and the gifts that followed Reporting says Trump asked oil executives at a Mar-a-Lago dinner on April 11, 2024 for $1 billion. Rep. Jamie Raskin's May 14, 2024 letters went to nine recipients: Chevron, ExxonMobil, Continental Resources, Chesapeake Energy, Occidental Petroleum, Venture Global LNG, Cheniere Energy, EQT and the American Petroleum Institute. His release says the executives "appear to have attended" a 20-person "Energy Round Table" and does not name attendees; no source read for this entry does. FEC records show Continental Resources Inc. gave $1,000,000 to the super PAC Make America Great Again Inc. on April 29, 2024, 18 days after the dinner, and another $1,000,000 on Sept. 30, 2024. Climate Power independently dates the first gift to April 29, 2024. Continental's founder Harold G. Hamm personally gave Make America Great Again Inc. $1,000,000 on Sept. 27, 2024 and $200,000 on Nov. 9, 2023, per FEC records. Kelcy L. Warren of Energy Transfer gave Make America Great Again Inc. $5,000,000 on May 29, 2024, per FEC records. He is not among the nine recipients of Raskin's letters, and no source read here puts him at the dinner. The Trump 47 joint fundraising committee (2024) FEC records for the Trump 47 Committee, Inc. show these gifts from oil and gas figures before and after the dinner: Kelcy Warren $814,600 (Mar. 21, 2024); Harold Hamm $614,000 (Mar. 28) and $50,000 (Nov. 4); Bryan Sheffield of Formentera Partners $844,600 (May 20); Jeff Hildebrand of Hilcorp $200,000 (July 31) and $311,600 (Oct. 3). The same records show John Catsimatidis, listed under United Refining Co. and Red Apple Group, giving seven gifts from Apr. 30 to Sept. 22, 2024 that total $765,000. The Trump 47 Committee is a joint fundraising committee, so gifts to it are later split among participating committees; this entry did not trace the split. World Oil, citing campaign disclosures, reported Sheffield's $844,600 to the same committee in May. Gifts to MAGA Inc. in 2025 The FEC's mid-year 2025 report for a committee named MAGA Inc. (C00892471, separate in FEC records from Make America Great Again Inc.) lists $12,500,000 from Kelcy Warren on Feb. 20, 2025, $12,500,000 from Energy Transfer LP on Feb. 21, 2025, and $1,000,000 from Continental Resources on June 30, 2025. FEC classes these receipts as non-contribution receipts on line 17 (the entry shows Warren as an individual and Energy Transfer as a publicly traded company). The identical amounts look unusual, but they appear as two separate transactions. Across both super PAC committees, the FEC records found here show Warren and Energy Transfer giving $30 million in total ($5 million in 2024 and $25 million in 2025). The Brennan Center figure of $25 million cited in the $1 billion ask entry matches the 2025 pair. Adding the named donors' gifts dated after April 11 and through Dec. 31, 2024 to the two super PACs and the Trump 47 Committee gives $10,171,200: Warren $5,000,000, Continental Resources $2,000,000, Hamm $1,050,000, Sheffield $844,600, Catsimatidis $765,000 and Hildebrand $511,600. This is a sum of the records found here, not an industry total. Method and limits Method: on Oct. 4, 2026, Schedule A records from the FEC's open data service were searched for gifts of $5,000 or more from selected names, for 2022 through 2026, in five committees: Make America Great Again Inc., MAGA Inc. (C00892471), the Trump 47 Committee, the Trump National Committee JFC and the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee. Names searched: Continental Resources, Hamm, Warren, Energy Transfer, Hildebrand, Hilcorp, Sheffield, Formentera, Catsimatidis, United Refining, Red Apple, Occidental, Chevron, Exxon, Cheniere, Venture Global, Chesapeake, EQT, Paulson, Murray Energy, Craft, Alliance Resource and the American Petroleum Institute. Limits: the filing images were not opened. Name searches can match unrelated people. The Trump campaign committee was not searched. Gifts to other committees, such as Senate Leadership Fund, were not counted here, though the same records show Continental Resources gave $900,000 to the Senate Leadership Fund on May 9, 2024. No gifts of $5,000 or more turned up for Chevron, Exxon, Occidental, Cheniere, Venture Global, Chesapeake, EQT or the American Petroleum Institute in the committees searched. The inaugural committee returned no matching rows, so Occidental's reported $1 million inaugural gift in the $1 billion ask entry is not confirmed here. Perspectives Editorial read — The Author (site author), thesis The Author's reading: the FEC records show large gifts from the people and companies at the center of the oil industry's lobbying, timed in the weeks after the April 2024 dinner and again after the 2024 election, which fits the pattern described in the timeline entry. This is interpretation. The method is to place dated gifts next to dated events. The entry does not show that any gift was exchanged for a specific decision, the gifts were legal, and several of the gifts predate the dinner. Research notes Open leads: (1) open the filing images to confirm each transaction and read any memo text; (2) the principal campaign committee and the RNC's allocations of Trump 47 receipts; (3) the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee's donor list, which these FEC queries did not return; (4) gifts from the other Raskin-letter recipients through PACs or executives' personal names not searched; (5) attendee list of the April 11, 2024 dinner from the Washington Post; (6) why Warren and Energy Transfer each gave $12.5 million a day apart in Feb. 2025; (7) the Continental Resources gift of $900,000 to the Senate Leadership Fund and similar gifts to other committees. Hamm's gifts to the RNC (three entries of $123,900 on Mar. 28, 2024) appear in the records but were not included in the sums above. Note The gifts were legal and no court or inspector general has found that any donation was exchanged for a specific policy decision.
